Alana Chazan, Esq. is a family law attorney and mediator who has been exclusively working in family law since 2009. Prior to entering private practice, Alana was an Equal Justice Works Law Fellow who spent three years developing family law, domestic violence and immigration legal services for low-income gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender survivors of domestic violence at the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Bay Area Legal Aid. In 2015 Alana was named one of the top 40 LGBT lawyers under the age of 40 by the National LGBT Bar Association. In 2020, 2021 and 2022 she was named a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers, and for 2023 she has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" for southern California.
Alana has worked representing hundreds of survivors of intimate partner violence and is a California certified domestic violence advocate. Alana is the current membership coordinator of the Family Law Institute of the National LGBT Bar Association. Alana's legal writings on sexuality and the law have been published in the Texas Journal of Women and the Law and in the New York City Law Review. Alana was previously a Professor of Law at the People's College of Law in Los Angeles, California, where she taught Family Law, Community Property, and Criminal Procedure.
Alana attended law school at the City University of New York School of Law. Prior to law school, Alana earned a Master of Arts in Political Science from the New School for Social Research, and Bachelors degrees in history and political science from UC Santa Cruz. Alana is a fourth-generation native Angeleno, and a mother, who is proud to be back living in and working in her hometown.
